In Memory: Blake Travis, teaching artist
Blake Travis was a teaching artist for Springboard for more than 20 years. He died on Friday, February 26th at his home in Webster Groves, Missouri. He joined the roster with Young Audiences as a vocalist, percussionist, actor, and storyteller in 1988. He was classically trained on the oboe at age eight and his roots were in soul music. He expanded his expertise to include a full range of contemporary musical styles, including folk, jazz, R&B, rock, blues, and reggae. In addition to performing across America and in Europe, Blake participated as a singer and actor in several off-Broadway productions, locally produced commercials, and albums. His performances and workshops for Springboard focused on cultural diversity and awareness. Our condolences are extended to his family.
