West African Drum Orchestra and Culture NEW

Students in this program learn how to play West African drums and other percussion instruments from Sky Kingsland. As they sit in a drum circle, where the focus is on their fellow students’ work, they learn to listen. Lessons about rhythm and improvisation are interspersed with lessons about West African culture, especially teamwork and responsibility. The program can culminate in an end of the program performance. Residency can be 5 to 10 sessions. **Because students are drumming, this program should be placed so it does not disturb other classrooms.
