Tales from the Black West
Music, story and original song highlight the American Cowboy and the many African Americans who helped shape and tame “The Old West.” The cowboy occupation appealed to many freed slaves following the Civil War. It is estimated that about 15% of all cowboys were of African-American ancestry.

About Anderson, Brother John
Brother John is a renowned storyteller, cultural historian and vocalist. For over 16 years, he has performed throughout the United States and the Caribbean. In addition to an undergraduate degree in theater, Br. John's 3 years as an associate children's pastor and 7 years as an early childhood educator led him to the world of storytelling. Combined with his love for history, music and interactive learning, his experience has taught him the power of the oral tradition as a vehicle to promote literacy, values and cultural inclusiveness. Br. John is also the executive producer/co-host of a weekly, motivational radio talk show.
